AEK Athens vs Real Madrid: Can Madrid Stay Perfect?

Real Madrid arrive in Athens with nine points from nine, after wins over Inter Milan, Roma and RB Leipzig (4-1 in the last of those). They also beat Barcelona in El Clásico, which you can relive in our match report. According to Sports Illustrated’s preview, Vinícius Júnior is back from injury, which is a major lift.

AEK have three points from a win over LASK, but they were beaten 5-1 by Manchester City last time out, so their defence is under pressure. Kick-off at the Agia Sophia Stadium is 5.45pm UK time. Likely searches today: “AEK vs Real Madrid lineup” and “is Vinícius playing”.

Fenerbahçe vs Liverpool: A Tough Trip for the Leaders

Liverpool also have a perfect nine points and have scored 12 goals in three games, including a 4-3 win over Villarreal, as Yahoo Sports notes. But they lost to Arsenal at the weekend, and Sports Illustrated points out that their record in Türkiye is poor.

Fenerbahçe have not won yet in this competition. They drew 1-1 with Roma on matchday 1 and 2-2 with Slavia Prague, and they have a new man in charge: Dirk Kuyt took over after İsmail Kartal resigned. A new coach and a loud Istanbul crowd can be a dangerous mix for a visiting favourite. The game is also at 5.45pm UK time.

RB Leipzig vs Manchester City: Haaland Returns to a Favourite Opponent

This could be the best game of the night. City beat AEK 5-1 in the Champions League last time, but SI notes they have lost consecutive league games and look shaky at the back. Leipzig lost 4-1 to Real Madrid and to Como earlier in the phase, though they beat PSV, and they have won all four of their home Bundesliga games.

Two storylines stand out. Martín Demichelis, a former City defender, is Leipzig’s coach. And Erling Haaland has scored 12 goals against Leipzig, more than against any other opponent, per the same preview. Slavia Prague vs Arsenal: Staying in the Top Eight

Arsenal are unbeaten in the league phase. Yahoo Sports puts them on seven points after a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich last time, and they want to stay in the top eight, which brings a direct place in the round of 16. They also lost on penalties to Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup, so there is a little pressure to bounce back.

Slavia are near the bottom of the table, though sources disagree on their exact points, so we leave the number out. Their home support at the Eden Arena can make life hard, but Arsenal won 3-0 at this ground a year ago. For how the format works, see our Champions League draw guide.

Borussia Dortmund vs Real Betis

Betis are the surprise package. In their first Champions League campaign in two decades they have won three out of three, beating Lille, Porto and Feyenoord, and they sit in the top eight with nine points. Dortmund snatched a late equaliser in Der Klassiker on Saturday and will want to turn that momentum into a win at Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund’s points total is not given in our sources, so check UEFA for the latest table.

Lens vs Como

Como are one of the stories of the season. They beat Manchester United 4-1 in the Champions League, and SI says they have won both home league-phase games 4-1 and four straight in Serie A. Lens are going through a turbulent spell, although Florian Thauvin leads the competition with 15 chances created. Expect goals.

Porto vs Napoli: One Team Needs a First Point

Porto are one of two teams still without a point, even though they dominate the Primeira Liga. Napoli have three points from a win over Bodø/Glimt but lost 2-0 at Juventus at the weekend. At the Estádio do Dragão, a draw would suit neither side much, so the pressure is on both.

PSV vs Club Brugge and Viking vs Sabah

PSV thrashed Willem II 7-0 at the weekend after a 1-1 draw with Feyenoord, while Brugge have already won at San Siro this season. It is an open game between two attacking sides. In Stavanger, Viking are still waiting for their first win in their first Champions League campaign since 1992-93, after drawing with Bayern having led by two goals. Sabah claimed their first-ever Champions League win on matchday 2, beating Slavia Prague, so both teams have something to play for.

What Is at Stake in the Table

The top eight teams go straight to the round of 16, and places nine to 24 enter a play-off round. Tuesday’s results, such as PSG’s 6-0 win, already shifted the leaders, so tonight is a chance for Real Madrid, Liverpool and Betis to stay perfect. You can check the official standings on the PSG matchday page or on UEFA’s website after the final whistle.
